# Automation plugs

> Install, update and remove plugs from the catalog, upload your own, and see which plugs a licence check has blocked.

Plugs are managed by system administrators under **Administration, Plugs**. The page lists every plug with its origin, installed version, status and available updates.

## Install a plug

**1. Find the plug**

Filter by origin (**Collabase**, **Core**, **Community**, **Uploaded**) or search by name.

**2. Install**

Select **Install**. The install runs in the background, and you are told when it is done, with the plug's name and logo.

Every version is checked for its licences first. A plug whose dependencies carry a licence that Collabase may not ship shows **Not installable: a licence is not allowed**, and it is left out of the editor's step picker.

## Update and remove

An available update shows **Version x is available**. Select **Update** to replace the installed version. Flows that use the plug run with the new version after their next publish. **Remove** deletes the plug with all its versions, and flows that use it are switched off.

## Upload your own plug

Plugs your developers build are uploaded with the command line tool, see [Build a plug](https://collabase.ch/docs/automation/build-a-plug.md), or on this page. The package is checked for its licences and installed as an uploaded plug.

## Sandbox needed

Every plug that is not a Collabase plug needs the sandbox service. Without it the install fails with a message that the plug sandbox is not configured. See [Automation sandbox](https://collabase.ch/docs/admin/automation-sandbox.md).
