# Call a webhook

> Start a flow with a call from another system: the address, the data the run receives, the size limit and the answers.

Starts a run of a flow that begins with **Webhook received**. The call answers at once with the run id, before the run has finished. `GET` works the same way.

> [!WARNING]
>
> No token is needed. The flow id in the address is the only credential, so anyone who knows it can start the flow.

## Request

The body may be JSON or text, up to 5 MB. The run receives `method`, `body` and `query` as its trigger data.

```bash theme={"dark"}
curl -X POST "https://your-instance/api/v1/automation/webhooks/cm1abc?ref=7" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"order": 4711}'
```

## Answers

```json theme={"dark"}
{ "data": { "runId": "cm1def" } }
```

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `200` | The run was started. |
| `404` | The flow does not exist, is not published or does not start from a webhook. |
| `410` | The flow is switched off. |
| `413` | The body is larger than 5 MB. |
| `429` | Too many calls from this address to this flow. `Retry-After` says when to try again. |

For a flow whose trigger belongs to a plug, the call goes to the plug, which returns zero or more items. The answer then holds the id of the first run, or `null` when no run started.

To wait for the result, use [the synchronous address](https://collabase.ch/docs/api/automation/call-webhook-sync.md).
