# Start a run

> Start a published flow with a payload and get the run id at once, with an optional Idempotency-Key to make repeats safe.

Starts a run of the published version and answers `202` with the run id. The run goes on after the call.

> Scope `automation:write`. The token owner needs the editor role.

## Headers

**Idempotency-Key** `string`

Up to 200 printable characters. A repeat within 24 hours answers with the first run.

## Body

**payload** `object`

The data the flow starts with.

An unpublished flow answers `409 FLOW_NOT_RUNNABLE`.
