# AI and agents in Automation

> Use AI in flows: ask a model, let an agent use tools with approvals, choose your own AI provider and work with flows from Collabase AI or an MCP client.

AI in Automation is optional. Without an AI model on your instance or in the workspace, flows that use AI cannot be published, and everything else keeps working.

## What you can do

| Summarise, classify or draft text in a flow | The **Ask the model** step. It sends one question and returns the answer as text. |

| Choose which model is used and set a budget | The [AI provider](https://collabase.ch/docs/automation/ai-provider.md) of the workspace. |
| Describe a step in a sentence, or ask what went wrong in a run | [Build with AI](https://collabase.ch/docs/automation/build-with-ai.md). |
| Use your flows from Claude, Cursor or your own agent | The [MCP server](https://collabase.ch/docs/automation/mcp-server.md) of the workspace. |

## Safe by design

* An agent can only do what its tools allow, and a tool can ask a person first.
* Text from outside, such as the data a flow was started with or what a search returns, is handed to the model as data and not as instructions.
* Calls to the model go out from Collabase. A plug of the sandbox never sees the key of your provider.
* The assistants never publish a flow.
