# Import, export and templates

> Export a flow as a file, import a flow from this product or another tool, and start from bundled templates or ones your administrator saved.

## Export

Select **Export** in the editor. You get the draft as a JSON file. Anyone who can see the workspace can export. The file contains no connection values. It lists the steps that used a connection so that you know where to choose one again.

## Import

In the **Flows** tab select **From template or file** and choose a file. Collabase also reads flow files exported by other automation tools. The result is a draft:

* A plug that is not installed shows as an open issue on its step.
* Connections come back empty.
* A file that is not a flow creates nothing and shows an error.

Files up to 2 MB are accepted.

## Templates

The same dialog lists templates. The bundled ones cover common Collabase tasks, such as notifying people about a new work item. System administrators can save the draft of a flow as an instance template with **Save as template** in the editor. A template holds no connections. Starting from a template whose plug is missing creates the draft with the gap marked.
