An action of a plug does one thing and returns a result. It does not decide whether the flow stops, waits or answers a caller. The flow does that, with steps of the Flow control plug that comes with Collabase.
Design the result for the next step
Let your action return what the next step needs to decide. For example, an action that starts a long job in another system returns the job id. The flow then uses Wait for a call, and the other system calls the address when the job is done.
What an action must not do
- Do not poll in a loop inside the action until something finishes. A step may run for at most 10 minutes, and the run holds a worker while it waits. Return at once and let the flow wait.
- Do not start a long wait of your own. A paused run holds no resources, and only the flow control steps can pause one.
